Special Presentation About Bats In Bedminster Friday

A special interactive presentation about bats will be given at River Road Park.

BEDMINSTER, NJ — The Environmental Commission will host an interactive presentation about bats Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Stephanie Feigin, a bat biologist with the Conserve Wildlife Foundation, will give a presentation about bats, their eating habits, and what people can do to keep them around where they live at River Road Park.

Feigin will have acoustic detective on hand to demonstrate what bats sound like so residents can identify them.

The state Department of Environmental Protection reports that bats primarily eat night-flying insects. One little brown bat can eat up to 1,200 mosquito-sized insects in one hour.

New Jersey is home to nine species of bats. Six species live in New Jersey year-round, and three species are migratory. Year-round species are the: Little brown, big brown, northern long-eared, eastern small-footed, eastern pipistrelle, and the Indiana bat, which is endangered.
