Vanderveer House Hosting Revolutionary War Re-Enactors

The Jacobus Vanderveer House in Bedminster is hosting a group of Revolutionary War re-enactors at a special presentation Saturday.

This first annual drill will last from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.

According to a release, the Outwater’s Militia, a group of Revolutionary War re-enactors from Bergen County will be holding the drill.

The original Outwater’s Company, the release said, was founded in Hackensack in 1777, and the re-enactors group was established in 1979 to re-create the Revolutionary War unit, while also featuring civilian roles to create the full experience.

Saturday’s event will feature their drill as well as tours of the Jacobus Vanderveer House, all free of charge.

The Jacobus Vanderveer House was headquarters for General Henry Knox in the winter of 1778 to 1779, and is the only known building still standing that was associated with the Pluckemin Artillery Cantonment.

The house, the release said, interprets Dutch colonial life in America, and is a landmark of the local history.

The house is located on Route 202/206 in Bedminster behind River Road Park.
