Bloomfield Family Walks in Support of ALS
Gutknecht family walking in honor of mother lost to the degenerative neuromuscular disease disease.
For the third year, Amanda Gutknecht will be walking in the Walk to Defeat ALS fundraiser this Sunday in Long Branch, NJ.
The walk benefits research and awareness of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, the uncurable degenerative nerve illness popularly known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Gutknecht, a Bloomfield resident who grew up in Montclair, said she is again walking in memory of her mother Angela, who passed away 20 years ago this September of ALS.
"I miss my mom so much and think about her every day," Gutknecht said in an email. "This disease took her life way too early. She would be so proud of us walking in her memory."

So far, Gutknecht has raised almost $6,000 for ALS and hopes that more people will visit her team's page and donate to help the cause.
"Your donations will help in finding a cure so no one else has to suffer from this terrible disease," she said. "Thank you for supporting me and my family."
