Bloomfield Faces Pittsburgh in U15 National Cup Opener

The U15 Boys play Thursday, Friday and Saturday in qualifiers for the US Club National Cup.

On Thursday, Bloomfield faces off against Pittsburgh.

The Bloomfield Soccer Club's U15 Boys will open the US Club National Cup Champions tournament against a team representing Pittsburgh in Aurora, Colorado.

Bloomfield Soccer Club president Barry Weiner noted in an email that usually the Jersey teams playing teams from Pittsburgh tend to have names like "Devils," "Jets and "Giants."

"How exciting is this for Bloomfield?," Weiner said. "It's Pittsburgh vs. Bloomfield."

Head Coach John Ricca believes his boys are up to the challenge.

"Our boys are our town's ambassadors to the nation," Ricca said in an email." They are cementing Bloomfield's reputation as a point of destination for the highest level of soccer in the state and the region for many years to come."

Bloomfield possible opponents include Pittsburgh, Seattle and Raleigh, NC.

Weiner speculated that people in those cities are searching the internet right trying to figure out where Bloomfield is.

Ricca adds that the team roster includes 13 players who have hopes of being named to the Bloomfield High School Varsity team this fall, including 5 players who made Varsity as Freshman last year.

The U15 Boys play Thursday, Friday and Saturday in qualifiers for the US Club National Cup Championship to be decided Sunday July 21.
