Police said Olsen approached the pickup after spotting Spinelli, who tried to leave the vehicle. The Brick man returned to the pickup when ordered by Olsen but struggled with the driver in an attempt to put the truck in gear and flee, police had said.
Spinelli ignored the patrolman's orders to stop and locked himself in the truck, police said. Olsen was forced to break the passenger side window to try to remove Spinelli, who struck him several times, police said. He was eventually placed in custody with the help of an off-duty Lakewood officer, who witnessed the apparent altercation.
