Construction Worker Struck by Dump Truck on Parkway in Brick
Dump truck impounded pending inspection
A construction worker was struck by a dump truck in the southbound lanes of the Garden State Parkway on Thursday, leading to a significant traffic jam, police said.
The accident occurred just after 1 p.m. when a blue Ford F450 dump truck struck a construction worker. The worker, whose name was not released by State Police, suffered a serious head injury and was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, said Capt. Stephen Jones.
The worker was alert and conscious on the scene, however, Jones said.
The state police's Fatal Accident Investigation Unit, Crime Scene Unit and Commercial Vehicle Inspection Unit responded to the scene, as well as Brick Township police and paramedics.
Jones said the accident is still under investigation and no summonses have been issued. The dump truck, he said, was impounded and towed so it could be fully inspected.
