Ex-Brick Cop Indicted on Theft, Misconduct Charges

Ocean county grand juries hand up indictments

A former Brick police officer has been indicted on charges accusing him of .

Jeffrey J. Lempicki, a Herkimer Road resident, was indicted last week by an Ocean County grand jury on a second-degree official misconduct charge and a third-degree theft charge.

Lempicki, 34, is accused of stealing in excess of $500 from the police union during a period in which he served as treasurer.

The former officer resigned from his post in March and turned himself into authorities in May after a two-month investigation by the Brick police and Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.

Lempicki was released on his own recognizance while he awaits trial.

Grand juries also indicted:

  • Jair J. Oliver of Brick on charges of assaulting officers who were trying to arrest him on drug charges.

Oliver, a Sawmill Road resident, assaulted Brick Officers Richard Crimi and Joseph Rossi on July 1, the indictment states. He also had cocaine and marijuana in his possession, authorities charge.

A grand jury upheld two counts of aggravated assault, a charge of resisting arrest, possession of a controlled dangerous substance and a posssession with intent to distribute charge.

Oliver was initially held on $60,000 bail, no 10 percent option, but posted on July 8.

  • Darrel A. Bove of Jackson on charges accusing him of burglarizing four Brick homes last spring.

Bove is accused of entering homes on Hawaii Drive, Vermont Avenue, Birch Bark Drive and Stoney Point Road in February and March.

Authorities claim the Jackson man stole more than $500 in jewelry and coins during the Hawaii Drive break-in. Bove garnered more than $500 in jewelry, coins and two gold spoons from the Vermont Avenue burglary, the indictment states. He is accused of taking more than $500 in currency, jewelry and a camera from the Birch Bark Drive home, as well as more than $500 in coins from the Stoney Point Road home.

Additionally, Bove also sold jewelry and coins he obtained from the burglaries, authorities charge.

Bove faces the following charges: four counts of burglary, four counts of theft and two counts of dealing in stolen property.

He was initially held on $10,000 bail but posted May 1.

  • A Brick man and Manasquan resident on charges of impersonating two other men in order to frauduently acquire an apartment lease.

A grand jury upheld charges accusing [Removed] of Brick and [Removed] of Manasquan of stealing the identities of two other males in June, which they then allegedly used to forge a lease agreement in Beachwood.

Authories charge the pair with then stealing a variety of items from the landlords they allegedly defrauded, including a refrigerator, freezer, kitchen island, smoke alarms, a vacuum, lawn mower and more. The value of the items was worth more than $500 but less than $75,000.

Additionally, [Removed] and [Removed] allegedly had possession of a stun gun, as well.

The pair were each charged with impersonation/identity theft, forgery, theft and possession of a stun gun.

Each were initially held on $40,000 bail, no 10 percent option, but posted on May 2.

  • Barbara M. Collins of Brick on charges of burglary and theft.

Collins allegedly broke into a Dekker Court home in February and stole Percocet, an indictment states. She was released on a summons.
