BRICK, NJ — It's been nearly four years since the Brick Township Board of Adjustment approved plans to replace the old Wawa that sat just across from the end of the ramp at Garden State Parkway Exit 91.

The wait is nearly over: Wawa is estimating a spring opening for the new, expanded store.

The store is one of five opening in the spring of 2023 in New Jersey, according to the Wawa website.

Last year, Wawa CEO Chris Gheysen told the Philadelphia Business Journal the company plans to open another 1,800 locations in states across the country.

The Brick zoning board approved a 4,700-square-foot store with 12 fuel pumps, replacing the "legacy" store that had occupied the corner of Lanes Mill Road and Burnt Tavern Road for years. The franchisee purchased the lot next door to the original store to accommodate the fuel station; that property had been home to a Chinese restaurant and a pizzeria.
