Louise S. Wootton, Georgian Court Professor, Animal Rescuer, Mourned

Dr. Wootton, who was born in the British Isles, taught at Georgian Court for more than 25 years and was deeply involved in animal rescue.

BRICK, NJ — Louise Sarah Wootton of Brick died of complications from uterine surgery on Sunday, March 3, 2024, at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. She was 59 years old.

Born in the British isle of Guernsey on November 4, 1964, she was the daughter of Patrick Wootton, who preceded her in death in 2001, and Ann Wootton. She was the third of four children with a younger brother and a brother and sister much older.

The family moved from Guernsey to Prince Edward Island, Canada, when Louise was a teenager. She graduated from a local high school, earned a bachelor’s degree at Acadia College in Nova Scotia and a master’s degree in biology from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver.

It was while earning her Ph.D in the United States that she met her future husband, David Williams. When she finished her doctoral degree from the University of Maryland at College Park (while also teaching full-time at Salisbury State University in Maryland), she and David moved to New Jersey, where they later married. Louise taught at Georgian Court University in Lakewood from 1997 until her death, and also was heavily involved in the local animal rescue community.

She is survived by her mother, Ann Wootton, younger brother Andrew Bruce-Wootton, and older siblings James Wootton and Bridget Spring, nieces and nephews Ellie Spring, David Wootton, Richard Wootton, Laura Bruce-Wootton and Peter Bruce-Wootton, and her husband, David Williams, and extended family and friends.

Services have been set for 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, at Georgian Court University.
