Making Change One Kind Word, Action At A Time: Ben, Brick Star Student
We all know students who excel in academics, fine arts or volunteer service. Here's one who is having an impact in Brick.

BRICK, NJ — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.
Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.
This submission comes from Gerri Bayles, who nominated her former student, Benjamin, who lives in Brick
Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?
Ben was my student in elementary school. Ben had challenges early in his academics and always persevered. His drive and determination in never giving up on himself led him on the path he follows today. He is now graduating this year with honors from Brick Memorial High School and will be attending the engineering program and playing football at Kings College in Pennsylvania. He will also be playing in the Jersey Shore Conference football game this July between Ocean and Monmouth counties.
Ben has overcome tragedy in his life, losing his dad to a tragic accident. But this didn’t define him. This young man is a respectful, driven, ambitious boy who is sure to succeed because he has a strong support system (primarily his mom) and the desire to change the world one kind word and action at a time. Ben is an amazing young man whose journey is just beginning! Ben is a shining example to any child that thinks they can’t. I am beyond proud of this young man.
What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?
Ben is an extremely kind and driven young man. He overcomes any obstacle that he has encountered and perseveres, shining as an example and role model for all who know him. He is truly a leader and inspires others to be the best versions of themselves.
Congratulations on your achievements, and all of our best wishes to you in the future, Benjamin!
