BRICK, NJ — A Brick Township man is accused of driving drunk when he hit a teenager on an electric bicycle on Saturday night in Brick and did not stop, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said.

William Donohoe, 43, has been charged with knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash resulting in serious bodily injury, assault by auto, and driving under the influence in the crash that happened just before 11 p.m. Saturday, Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said.

The crash happened at the intersection of Midstreams Road and Midstreams Place, authorities said.

Investigators determined a Nissan Rogue was traveling north on Midstreams Place and hit the electric bicycle being ridden by a 15-year-old boy as the Nissan was turning left onto Midstreams Road, authorities said.

The Nissan kept going west on Midstreams Road, authorities said.

The teen was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune where he remains stable, authorities said.

As police were giving aid to the victim they saw Donohoe walking toward the crash site from a significant distance away, authorities said, and investigators determined he was the person driving the Nissan.

The officers saw that Donohoe appeared to be intoxicated and tried to administer field sobriety tests, but Donohoe failed them, authorities said.

He was arrested then and taken to Ocean University Medical Center in Brick Township for a draw of his blood under a court-authorized warrant, authorities said.

The results of the blood draw remain pending. Donohoe is being held in the Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing.
