Convicted Burglar Accused Of String Of Business Break-ins, Brick Police Say

BRICK, NJ — A Toms River man with a lengthy history of burglarizing businesses has been charged in a string of commercial burglaries that have happened over the last month in Brick Township, police said Friday.

Alfred John Oliveri Jr., 67, was arrested Tuesday in connection with the investigation, Police Chief David Forrester said.

Oliveri, who is being held in the Ocean County Jail in Toms River, has been charged with nine counts of burlgary, nine counts of theft, eight counts of criminal mischief causing damage, nine counts of possession of burglar’s tools and one count of criminal mischief-tampering, according to the Ocean County Corrections website.

Police said the investigation into the burglaries found they shared distinct similarities: In each incident, a man riding a bicycle targeted businesses after closing hours and smashed glass windows with a rock to get into the business.

Once inside the man would take items of value, Brick police said.

Police did not identify the businesses that were burglarized.

Oliveri has been arrested and pleaded guilty to similar charges going back as far as 1993, according to state court records online.
