BRICK, NJ — The music of the Mister Softee truck is one of those sounds that transports adults back to childhood, with memories of ice cream twists on a hot summer day.

The ice cream company, based in Runnemeade, has expanded into brick-and-mortar stores in recent years, including four locations in Ocean County.

Dan Pittman, the franchise owner, said one of the four stores, currently in Toms River, will be closing and he will be opening a new store in Brick, at 2524 Hooper Ave., in the Red Lion Plaza at Drum Point Road. He is hoping for a December opening.

The new Mister Softee store was first reported by NJ 101.5.

The new store will be more than just ice cream: A coffee bar is planned as well.
