Woman Found Stabbed In Brick Parking Lot Still Fights To Recover

More than a year after a woman was found bleeding from 38 stab wounds she needs more surgery; her victims compensation funds have run out.

BRICK, NJ — A woman who was found bleeding from 38 stab wounds in a Brick Township parking lot has spent the last 17 months working to heal from the attack.

It has been a challenging road. The woman, whose ex-boyfriend has been charged with attempted murder, gets stronger as each day passes since she was found in the parking lot near the Cherry Quay bicycle path by a police officer on Jan. 5, 2023.

After lifesaving surgeries the night she was found by a Brick Township police officer on a routine patrol, it has taken multiple surgeries and multiple hospital stays, the woman confirmed to Patch. She asked that her name be withheld because of the ongoing legal proceedings.

She still needs more surgery to repair nerve damage to her right foot, which is impairing her ability to walk. She also needs surgery on her hand.

"She was in a coma for a month," the woman's best friend wrote in a GoFundMe campaign she created to raise money for the surgeries, which are not covered by insurance. She has been receiving assistance from the Victims of Crime Compensation Fund for physical therapy and mental health services, but that assistance is capped at $25,000, the state website says.

Her ribs were broken and she suffered punctures in every major organ except her heart, the friend wrote.

"She had to relearn how to walk after having dropfoot from being bedridden for so long," the friend wrote.

The GoFundMe campaign is aiming to raise $20,000 to pay for the surgeries as the woman continues to rebuild her life — a life where she will be able to raise awareness of domestic violence and to work to help others who are faced with the challenges it poses.
