Appeals Court Knocks Down Escalator Injury Suit Against Bridgewater Mall

The suit claimed a girl's leg was cut when a metal piece allegedly fell off of the escalator she was riding in 2007.

A state appeals court upheld the dismissal of a 2007 suit brought against the Bridgewater Mall claiming negligence when a young shopper was injured while riding one of its escalators, NJ.com reports.

The Sept. 6 decision found that the girl and her father were unable to prove negligence on the part of the mall and the company hired to maintain its escalators, upholding a 2012 lower court ruling.

The suit claimed the girl was going up an escalator with her family when a metal panel allegedly fell off the side of the escalator and lacerated her right shin.
