Car Fire Rages Near Home, Residents Evacuated In Somerset County

Branchburg Township Police helped residents evacuate from the home on Sunday morning.

BRANCHBURG, NJ — A car ignited into flames right next to a home in Branchburg on Sunday morning.

At around 7:44 a.m., Branchburg Police were dispatched to 981 Evergreen Road for the report of a motor vehicle fire.

The fire was reported to be coming from a parked vehicle's engine about 15 feet from the home, said Branchburg Police Captain Edward Edgar.

Readington Volunteer Fire Company was called to the car fire, but due to proximity to the house, Country Hills Volunteer Fire Company was also requested to help.

The fire also reportedly began to extend to a second vehicle in the driveway as well, said Edgar.

Police helped with safely securing the scene and evacuating the residents from their home. Branchburg Rescue Squad also came to help, and no injuries were reported as a result of the fire at that time.

Readington Fire and Country Hills Fire were able to successfully extinguish the fire upon their arrival and render the scene safe. All units ultimately cleared the scene without further incident.
