Colorado Shooting on Minds of Area Moviegoers

Although area residents were shaken by the news, it didn't stop them from heading to the theater.

On their way to the movie theater Friday evening, Bridgewater residents Caroline Williams and Sofia Andeskie talked about how security was being stepped up at some theaters because of a shooting at a movie theater in Aurora, Colo., that left 12 dead and 70 injured.

They understood why security would be increased, but Williams said she was not worried about copycat incidents. Andeskie said it was not something that changed their plans.

Middlesex resident Adan Ruiz was at the Bridgewater Commons AMC with family and friends trying to get tickets for the 7:30 p.m. showing of "The Dark Knight Rises," which was sold out.

He said news of the shooting in Colorado was "hard to hear about" and "scary," but not something that kept them from going to the movies.

AMC's corporate office issued statements about the shooting, saying they would not admit guests with "face-concealing masks" or fake weapons, and would be increasing security nationwide.

"We are taking necessary precautions to ensure our guests who wish to enjoy a movie this weekend can do so with as much peace of mind as possible in these circumstances," the company said.

A 23-year-old . Jacci Fry, of Andover, was hit in the leg by shrapnel and released from surgery Friday afternoon.
