District 23: Incumbents Retain Seats

Doherty, Peterson and DiMaio all win by comfortable margins.

The leadership in District 23 will not change after Tuesday's election.

Incumbent Senate candidate Michael Doherty (R-Oxford) defeated challengers John Graf Jr. (D-Bedminster) and Daniel Seyler (I-Phillipsburg), according to unofficial numbers from the websites of the Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren County clerks' offices. Doherty received 21,452 votes, Graf 12,440, and Seyler 1,030.

In the Assembly, Erik Peterson (R-Franklin) and John DiMaio (R-Hackettstown) will keep their seats. They defeated Scott McDonald (D-Washington Borough) and Karen Carroll (D-Bound Brook). Both Peterson and DiMaio received more than 20,500 votes, while McDonald received 12,273 and Carroll 13,222.
