Driver Crashes Into Utility Pole, Mailbox In Bridgewater

The crash happened late on Tuesday night in the Finderne section of Bridgewater Township.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — An SUV crashed into a utility pole and a mailbox on Tuesday night in Bridgewater.

On Tuesday at 11:35 p.m., Bridgewater Police and Finderne Fire Department went to a crash on Morgan Lane.

A Gold Toyota Highlander that was traveling north on Morgan Lane when it ran off the right side of the road, hit a utility pole, and then hit a mailbox at 48 Morgan Lane, according to police.

The driver, who was not identified, said he was driving when his floor mat got stuck under the brake pedal, not allowing him to stop.

To rectify the problem, the driver looked down, which caused him to drive off the road, said police.

The driver later said he believed his brake pedal was unresponsive and caused him to crash, according to the police report.

Further investigation found that the driver was distracted by something inside the vehicle and was unable to control his vehicle, said police.

The driver was issued summonses for failure to stay in a single lane and careless driving.

The Finderne Fire Department, which covers the southeast section of Bridgewater Township, is always looking for volunteers.

Volunteers are offered complete protective gear, free training, LOSAP (Length of Service Award Programs), a pay-per-call incentive, a life insurance/disability plan, and an in-house gym.
