FreshDirect Begins Bridgewater Service
Company now delivers groceries to local addresses.
Tired of running to the grocery store? As of Monday, you can have your groceries delivered by fast-growing FreshDirect , an online retailer of fresh foods and grocery items.
The company announced it had expanded its service to 123 new ZIP code areas in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Delaware this week.
“At FreshDirect our business model is based on our unique farm-to-table offering and convenient service structure, and we’re thrilled to be able to expand this promise to new customers in the state of Delaware and beyond,” Jason Ackerman, FreshDirect co-founder and CEO, said. “Time and time again customers ask for FreshDirect to come to their neighborhood and we are answering that call. We already have thousands of residents in our new expansion areas pre-registered to be future customers, and we are eager to bring our mission to change the relationship people have with food, freshness, and farmers, to the new communities we will soon call home.”
FreshDirect was launched in New York City in 2002, where it was a less-expensive alternative to city stores. The company has been able to successfully grow outside the city largely thanks to its organic, kosher and sustainable products, according to some analysts. The company also touts its efforts to purchase as much locally-produced products as possible.Orders placed via the company's website are prepared for delivery the next days, with home delivery incurring additional fees between $6.99 and $7.99 (the website has not been updated to include Bridgewater delivery fees or schedules).
The company join's Stop and Shop's Peapod delivery program, which also delivers to Bridgewater residential areas. The service costs $9.95 for delivery of $60 to $100, and $6.95 for grocery deliveries of more than $100.
