Manhattan Saxophonist Crafts Pop-Oriented Jazz
Daniel Bennett's new release harkens to popular jazz sounds of the '60s—you can hear it at the Bridgewater library Oct. 11.

In the 1960, jazz greats like Cannonball Adderly and Stan Getz recorded mega-hits with sounds that mixed jazz with the era's popular R&B and Bossa sounds.
Now, New York saxophonist Daniel Bennett is using the same approach, combining American Roots music themes and folk music with snappy rhythms that has been getting high praise and drawing crowds to his Manhattan shows.
You can check out Bennett and his band on Oct. 11, as the group performs a free concert at the Bridgewater library, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
The show is part of the Daniel Bennett Group's "New Jersey CD Release" promoting its newest release, "Clockhead Goes to Camp," in which the Village Voice noted "saxophonist Daniel Bennett makes hay with an airy approach that's buoyant enough to conjure notions of East African guitar riffs and Steve Reich's pastoral repetition."
The band has released five recordings over the last 10 years, building a solid reputation for inventive compositions. Early notices for "Clockhead" have praised the fresh and fun music, and audiences have been flocking to his shows—a stand at the Metropolitan Room following the release was a rare sell out.
