Middle of Country Club Road Repaved—Only Thing Missing is Ends

Bridgewater seeking grant to repair outer ends of Country Club Road.

Now that the middle is done, the township is hoping to receive a grant to repair the outer edges of Country Club Road.

According to Township Administrator Jim Naples, the township received $150,000 in grant money from the New Jersey Department of Transportation several years ago to repave the middle section of Country Club Road between Routes 28 and 22.

"That was the worst section of the road," he said.

To hopefully complete the remaining outer edges of the road, the Bridgewater Township Council unanimously approved a resolution Aug. 16 to submit another grant application to the NJDOT for $418,088 to complete the repaving.

All that is left to be done is the part of the road from Route 28 to 1,063 feet north of that point, as well as from Route 22 to about 500 feet south of the highway.

The township is hoping to receive a grant from the NJDOT's 2011 Municipal Aid Program for pavement reconstruction.

Unfortunately, Naples said, obtaining the grant money is not a guarantee, as the grant is a very competitive one, with many municipalities applying for it. And if the township does not receive it this year, he said, the project cannot move forward.

"If we don't get the grant, we don't have the money to do the project," he said. "But we can reapply later."

Although Naples said he does not know when the township will learn if the grant has been awarded, he expects the project can be completed within six months of the approval, including time to go out to bid for the construction work.

Once the grant application is submitted, the township will just have to wait and see.

The first part of the Country Club Road repaving project, Naples said, was completed around the late spring with the repaving of the middle area of the road between the two points where the new project is planned.

The township did not have to put any money toward that part of the project, and it will not be required to match any new grants from the NJDOT for the next phase of construction.
