Mosque Hearing Scheduled for Feb. 28

The planning board has arranged to hear the application at the performing arts auditorium in the Somerset County Vocational & Technical Schools.

To accommodate the number of residents wishing to attend the hearing for an application to build a mosque on the former Redwood Inn property on Mountain Top Road, the Bridgewater Township Planning Board has arranged to hold its Feb. 28 meeting in the performing arts auditorium of the Somerset County Vocational & Technical Schools on Vogt Drive.

The application had originally been planned for the , but the number of residents in attendance exceeded the capacity of the municipal complex, and the board was forced to reschedule.

The applicant was also required to re-notice all residents because the original notice did not mention that the application includes plans for an elementary school and daycare.

The  is to build a mosque on the former Redwood Inn property on Mountain Top Road, and will include a daycare facility and elementary school on the approximately 14,750 square feet.

According to the preliminary site plan, it will accommodate up to 500 people for special services twice a year and 250 people on Friday afternoons for non-event worship attendance.

The daycare facility can accommodate 40 children and the elementary school can bring in 235 students.
