Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Train Identified as Somerset County Resident: Police

The pedestrian stuck by a train in Manville on Thursday has been identified.

The pedestrian stuck by a train in Manville on Thursday has been identified as 22-year-old Manville resident Devin J. Burke.

“Yesterday at approximately 6:15 a.m. a train conductor operating a westbound train reported to authorities that he observed what appeared to be a deceased human body on the train tracks, according to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office.

“At 6:20 a.m. responding Manville Police Officers subsequently located the body of a deceased male on the train tracks in the vicinity of 600 Washington Avenue.”

His injuries came as a result of being struck by a train, according to the investigation.

Authorities will review potential video footage equipped on the trains to determine the circumstances surrounding the death Burke. A preliminary investigation has shown no foul play and detectives are currently investigating whether Burke’s death was accidental or suicide.

The Incident

Police say a pedestrian was apparently fatally struck by a train on the tracks near North 7th Avenue in Manville early Thursday morning.

According to nj.com, it was not a New Jersey Transit train that struck the pedestrian. As of 8:30 a.m. Norfolk Southern workers were on the scene.
