Talented Youth on Display

"American Idol" is in full swing on television, so it's a about the right time to see some local young talent on display. You've got that chance over the next seven days.

Here's a look at what else is happening this week:

Monday-It's still a rough economic climate out there, and a free course to parents of high school students on the topic of financial aid for college students may be something to check out. It's being held at 7:30 p.m. at the Rutgers Cooperative Extension.

Tuesday-The will be holding an open house from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The school is currently enrolling pre-kindergarten through eighth graders, and also has a full day kindergarten program.

Wednesday-A guided walk through the winter woods will be held at 4 p.m. starting at in Basking Ridge. Advanced payment is required, so make sure to check out the event's listing.

Thursday-Some young and talented performers will be on display at the eighth grade talent show at 7 p.m. at the .

Friday-The Friday Night Movie at the at 7 p.m. is "Unstoppable," starring Denzel Washington.

Saturday-A production of the "Velveteen Rabbit," based on the story by Margery Williams, will be performed by the Somerset Valley Players at 2 p.m. at the in Hillsborough.

Sunday-Julie Maloney of Women Reading Aloud will hold an interview with Joyce Hinnefeld, author of "Stranger Here Below" at 2 p.m. at the Bernardsville Public Library.
