Pop-Up Party Rumors At Bridgewater Commons Mall Prompt Youth Supervision Policy
The policy comes after hundreds of teens descended on Menlo Park and Woodbridge Center malls. Rumors suggest Bridgewater could be next.
BRIDGEWATER, NJ — A Temporary Youth Supervision Policy will be implemented at the Bridgewater Commons mall following rumors that a large-scale pop-up gathering could come to the Bridgewater Commons Mall.
"Bridgewater Commons will implement a temporary Youth Supervision Policy on Saturday, May 31, from 12 to 9 p.m. All guests under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian 21+ during this time. Your safety is our top priority!" wrote Bridgewater Commons on Friday.
Earlier this week, Bridgewater Police Chief John Mitzak issued a warning to teens thinking about bringing a large-scale juvenile pop-up party to Bridgewater - similar to ones that brought hundreds to Woodbridge and Menlo malls.

"The Bridgewater Police is aware of recent incidents involving large-scale juvenile pop-up gatherings, including those that occurred at the Woodbridge Center and Menlo Park Malls. These events drew crowds in excess of 300 individuals and results in public disturbances, fights, injuries, including one to an apolice officer, and multiple arrests. Such gatherings have created unsafe environments for participants, mall patrons, and the general public," said Mitzak. "We are also aware of social media posts indicating that the Bridgewater Commons Mall may be the next location for a similar gathering."
"Let me be clear: the safety of our residents, visitors, and businesses is our highest priority. Any planned disruptions or unlawful activity will be met with a coordinated response by the Bridgewater Police Department and our law enforcement partners," said Mitzak on Tuesday.
Mitzak issued a warning to young teens, youth and juveniles - "we urge you to consider the consequences of your actions. What may seem like a fun or harmless activity can have lasting implications, both legally and personally. These pop-up events, while often promoted as social gatherings, can quickly escalate into dangerous situations, putting everyone at risk."
He also asked parents and guardians to speak with children about the importance of making good decisions and the potential consequences of engaging in unlawful or disruptive behavior. We also strongly advise against coming to the mall for any nefarious or disorderly purpose."
The Bridgewater Police is actively monitoring all developments and social media activity related to this issue.
"Should an event occur and poor choices be made, those involved will be held accountable," said Mitzak.
