$22K Motorcycle Stolen During West Caldwell Home Burglary: Police

A New York resident has been accused of committing a home burglary in West Caldwell, police say.

WEST CALDWELL, NJ – A New York resident has been accused of committing a home burglary in West Caldwell, police say.

The West Caldwell Police Department released the following details about the incident:

“On April 15, 2025, at approximately 4:10 a.m., West Caldwell officers responded to a reported residential burglary on Ellis Road. The homeowner reported the theft of a BMW motorcycle, valued at $22,500, from the property's attached garage. Upon arrival, officers observed clear evidence of forced entry, including a broken window and displaced items outside the garage area. Surveillance footage obtained from a Ring doorbell camera captured an unidentified individual near the residence in the hours preceding the theft.”

Following an investigation, Edgar Merejildo-Beato of the Bronx, New York, was identified as a primary suspect in the case. On Aug. 13, Merejildo-Beato was formally charged with Residential Burglary (Second Degree), Conspiracy to Commit Residential Burglary (Second Degree), Motor Vehicle Theft (Third Degree), and Criminal Mischief (Fourth Degree).

Merejildo-Beato was transported to the Essex County Detention Center, where he will remain in custody pending a scheduled hearing, police said.
