Car Crash Kills Essex County Grandmother, Driver Pleads Guilty
A crash in Roseland claimed the life of a 70-year-old Caldwell woman. An Essex Fells resident has pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide.
ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — A New Jersey man has pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide in connection with a fatal car crash that happened in Essex County two years ago.

One of the drivers, Christine Perrella, was taken to Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, where she died from her injuries.

Perrella, a 70-year-old Caldwell resident, was described in her obituary as a “loyal and caring person” whose laughter always filled the room.
“Nothing was more important to her than her family and friends,” her obituary states. “She most especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.”

The other driver, Alexander F. Eiden, of Essex Fells, was charged with aggravated manslaughter and vehicular homicide.
Eiden pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide on Monday. Sentencing is scheduled for May 19, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said.
