Board of Ed. Candidate Cipoletti Calls For Focus On Technology, Communication

The following is a press release from Dan Cipoletti, a candidate in the 2013 Caldwell-West Caldwell Board of Education election. 

Dan Cipoletti hosted a meet and greet on Friday, Oct. 18, evening at Rock 'n' Joe with members of the community to discuss his platform for Caldwell-West Caldwell Board of Education. 

The event was attended by nearly 100 residents, including current and past members of the governing bodies of the Caldwell and West Caldwell.

Cipoletti stressed open communication between the school board and the two municipal governments, and pointed to the recent controversy regarding pizza lunches in schools as a subject that many believe could have been handled better.

“We need more communication between the school system, parents, and the community,” Cipoletti said.  “The pizza issue is an example where a better understanding of the implication and the clear sharing of the facts was needed, this is essential as this and other items are evaluated.”

Improving technology in our schools is also a main point of Cipoletti’s platform, he said. 

“According to the Department of Labor, 65 percent of the jobs our children will have when they graduate do not exist today," said Cipoletti. "This is concerning to me as a parent and a member of our community. 

"We need to ensure our children are prepared for the next phase of their lives once they graduate from our schools. Technology and critical thinking skills are essential to their success.”

Lifellong West Caldwell resident Mitch Payne said, “When Dan makes a commitment to something, he draws upon all his resources and experience to ensure positive outcomes. Local musician Dylan Clark also entertained the gathering with acoustic guitar during the course of the evening.

There are two two seats on the board up for grabs this November. Board members Rosanne Hansen and John King will seek reelection, and will be challenged by Cipoletti, Marie Lanfrank and Charles Alberta. 

The five will be on the ballot on the Nov. 5 general election. Both seats carry three-year terms.
