Ex-Police Chief In The Caldwells Finds New Career In Housing Industry

Mark Deuer, a former top cop in the Caldwells, is hammering out a new career in the housing industry with Clifton-based Value Companies.

CALDWELLS, NJ — A former police chief in North Caldwell is hammering out a new career in the housing industry.

Clifton-based Value Companies recently announced that Mark Deuer – the former top cop in North Caldwell – has been hired as their construction manager and director of security. He will be leading the team responsible for new development projects, and will also oversee the safety of the company’s employees and residents.

Deuer, a West Caldwell resident, served as police chief in the nearby borough of North Caldwell for the last 13 years of his 30-year law enforcement career before retiring. During his career in law enforcement, Mr. Deuer responded to, and assisted in, rescue efforts at both the 9/11 World Trade Center attack and Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans.

As police chief in North Caldwell, Deuer planned, coordinated and directed the daily activities of the police department – experience he will be able to put to work at his new role at Value Companies, his new employers said.

Deuer attended the Fairleigh Dickenson University Law and Public Safety Graduate Degree Program.

“When we saw Mark’s unique skill set as both an organizational leader and an expert in law enforcement, we knew he’d be a great fit for our team,” Executive Vice President Matthew Mirman said.

“Mark understands how to run a project effectively,” Mirman said, adding that the former police chief is already bringing new ideas to the job.
