Garden Center Moves From West Orange To The Caldwells, Marks Grand Opening

CALDWELLS, NJ — A floral and plant retailer has opened the doors on a new location in the Caldwells.

Metropolitan Plant and Flower Exchange – which formerly had a location in West Orange – celebrated its opening at 246 Passaic Avenue in West Caldwell on Saturday.

The new location – which is being run as a nursery and garden center – includes outdoor gardening needs and fall merchandise, including pumpkins, mums and more.

The West Orange location is permanently closed, its website says.

Metropolitan Plant and Flower Exchange posted a message about its new location on social media:

“After more than four decades of proudly serving the community in West Orange, our family-owned garden center and plant shop is beginning an exciting new chapter in West Caldwell. While our location has changed, our commitment to offering the same exceptional selection of plants, garden supplies, outdoor decor, and gardening essentials remains as strong as ever.

“We are proud to announce that our new location will be known as Metropolitan at Caldwell Nursery, a name chosen to pay tribute to the long-standing garden center that was already cherished by the local community. Previous owner Joe built something truly special here, and his dedication, knowledge, and connection to the neighborhood left a lasting impression. We're honored to carry that legacy forward and serve the community with the same level of care and passion.

“This move brings fresh energy and familiar faces. Daughter of the owner, Vanessa, a Verona local and mom, is especially excited to help grow something meaningful in a neighborhood she already calls home. We're also thrilled that Tony, our longtime manager, also part of the family, will be making the move with us. His decades of experience, warmth, and dedication to our customers are a cornerstone of what we do.

“While our full-service floral department won't be part of the new location just yet, we will continue to offer delivery of fresh, handcrafted floral arrangements throughout the area, designed from our other locations. We hope to possibly bring the floral department back to West Caldwell in future. As we put down new roots, we look forward to meeting new customers, reconnecting with longtime supporters, and becoming a vibrant part of the West Caldwell community.
