Homeowner Held At Gunpoint During West Caldwell Robbery: Police
Three intruders with guns tied the homeowner up and robbed his home, police said. A search for the suspects continues.
WEST CALDWELL, NJ — A homeowner in West Caldwell was tied up and held at gunpoint during a robbery on Tuesday morning, authorities said.
According to the West Caldwell Police Department, officers responded to a home on Lougheed Avenue at 4:36 a.m. after getting a report about an “invasion-style robbery.”
The homeowner said he woke up when he heard someone forcing their way through a rear sliding glass door. When he went to check it out, he saw three intruders with guns on the first floor, police said.

The suspects bound the homeowner’s wrists and ankles with tape and held him at gunpoint while ransacking the home. They stole collectibles and cash, then fled the scene in the homeowner’s 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, authorities said.
Police located the unoccupied vehicle in New Brunswick after it crashed. A search for the suspects continues.

“Preliminary details from this incident appear that this residence was targeted by the actors and this does not appear to be consistent with recent home burglaries for high-end motor vehicles in the area,” West Caldwell police said.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office crime scene unit assisted with processing the scene and recovering evidence from the stolen vehicle.
“We are treating this matter with the utmost seriousness and are working closely with the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office to investigate this crime,” West Caldwell police said.
