"Please keep the family of this tragic incident in your thoughts and prayers during this holiday season," the North Caldwell FD said.
CALDWELLS, NJ — The cause of a fire that damaged a home in North Caldwell this week is still under investigation, authorities say.
The North Caldwell Fire Department responded to the blaze near Skyline Drive and Willowbrook Drive at 7:46 a.m. Here’s what happened next, authorities said:
“Engine 6 arrived within minutes and began fire suppression. Chief Peterson arrived on scene and assumed command of incident. Shortly after, Engine 4 arrived on scene and went to work. Due to the fire conditions and signs of structural collapse, defensive operations were commenced. Once conditions improved, firefighters transitioned to an offensive attack to knock down the remaining fire. Extensive overhaul operations began shortly thereafter.”
The fire was placed under control and all North Caldwell units went back in service within five hours of the initial dispatch, authorities said.
