Man Fatally Struck by Train in Montclair

Montclair-Boonton line suspended while NJ Transit Police investigate.

A man described as a "trespasser" was fatally struck by a train during the morning commute in Montclair Monday, according to Courtney Caroll, spokesperson for NJ Transit.

Service on the Montclair-Boonton line was restored shortly after 9 a.m. after being suspended for more than two hours while NJ Transit Police investigated the fatality which occurred near Laurel Place, Caroll said.

The 6:45 a.m. Hoboken bound train was carrying 400 passengers and crew members. No injuries were reported.

NJ Transit and private bus carriers were cross-honoring rail tickets and passes.
