Primary Election Nears In The Caldwells (See Candidate List)

Several Democrat and Republican candidates will appear on the ballot in Caldwell, North Caldwell and West Caldwell.

CALDWELLS, NJ — The home stretch to the 2025 primary election has begun in the Caldwells.

Voters in Caldwell, North Caldwell and West Caldwell will join others across New Jersey on June 10 when they head to the polls for this year’s primary election.

Democratic and Republican candidates will compete for their party’s nomination. The winners of the primary will face off in the general election on Nov. 4, which will also include third-party and independent candidates.

The Essex County Clerk’s Office recently released sample ballots for each town and city, including the Caldwells. A ballot draw was held for governor and Democratic Statehouse races earlier this month.

CALDWELL BOROUGH COUNCIL

  • DEMOCRATS (vote for two) - Gerald Cardillo, Jonathan Sagalow
  • REPUBLICANS (vote for two) - Kris Brown, Darren Daniolowicz

NORTH CALDWELL BOROUGH COUNCIL

  • DEMOCRATS (vote for two) - Stephen Weinstein, Stephen Papageorge
  • REPUBLICANS (vote for two) - Arthur Rees, Suzanne Corbo

WEST CALDWELL

  • DEMOCRATS - no petitions filed
  • REPUBLICANS (vote for two) - Joseph Cecere, Stephen Wolsky

Voters in the Caldwells will also get to cast ballots for governor, two state Assembly members in the 40th district, and county clerk (both candidates are running unopposed).

GOVERNOR

  • DEMOCRATS (vote for one) – Josh Gottheimer, Steven Fulop, Steve Sweeney, Sean Spiller, Ras Baraka, Mikie Sherrill
  • REPUBLICANS (vote for one) – Mario Kranjac, Jon Bramnick, Jack Ciattarelli, Justin Barbera, Bill Spadea

NJ ASSEMBLY, 40th DISTRICT

  • DEMOCRATS (vote for two) – Jeffrey Gates, Ron Arnau
  • REPUBLICANS (vote for two) – Christopher DePhillips, Al Barlas

ESSEX COUNTY CLERK

  • DEMOCRATS (vote for one) – Christopher Durkin
  • REPUBLICANS (vote for one) – Maritza Mathews

The voter registration deadline for the primary election is May 20.

Early voting for the primary election will take place from June 3 to June 8 in Essex County. Voting hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. >> See Early Voting Locations In Essex County For 2025 Primary Election
