What Should Move to 340 Bloomfield Ave.?

The Caldwells Patch wants to know what you want to see move into town.

In this installment of Visions for Vacancies, The Caldwells Patch asks: What should move to 340 Bloomfield Ave.?

All possibilities are on the table. We ask you to forget what zone it's in, ignore setback regulations, dump-lot coverage rules, and all the other zoning jargon that puts most people to sleep. If you had your way, what would you like to see there? What would be the best use for the community?

This property, located in the heart of the Caldwell business district, has gone through a few transitions in the past year. The single-story business was previously the home of Carpet Cottage and then Neil’s Barbershop. A “For Sale” sign went up in the storefront around June 1 when the barbershop closed suddenly.

The vacant building is located at the intersection of Smull and Bloomfield avenues, and is sandwiched between a salon and fruit basket business. There is plenty of parking in the lot behind The Caldwell Diner, in addition to on-street parking.

What do you think should move into the vacant space? As a starting off point, let’s nix pizzerias, ice cream and yogurt shops and nail salons from the list.
