How have your favorite Chatham High School sports teams fared?

On Wednesday, Sept. 19:

• The volleyball team defeated Morris Hills 2-0, with scores of 25-19 and 25-18 in their two sets. The victory raises the Cougars' record to 2-3 on the season. Carolyn Johnson had six aces and 11 assists; Rachel Prill had five kills.
• The boys cross country team defeated West Morris 23-28 and fell to Morristown 20-39. The team dropped its average time by 14 seconds. Dominic Vernazza led the way with a fourth place overall in 16:52. Andrew Vena in 17:36, Brian Leonard in 17:38, Tom Whiteside in 18:13, and Bobby Costanzo in 18:21 rounded out the top five scorers. JC Perrin, Will Mitchell, and Carson Burns also turned in great races. 
• The girls cross country team fell to Morristown and West Morris, 23-32 and 23-33, respectively. The team average was 21:44 and they placed seventh in the overall team 5k race with the following times:

• The girls tennis team lost all matches in a tough battle with the sixth-ranked Minutemen from Mendham. The Cougars are now 7-2.
• The boys soccer team, led by junior captain David Gill and sophomore Brian Graham, got their first win of the season with a 7-1 victory over Randolph. Gill and Graham both scored two goals.
• The girls soccer team fell to West Morris Central 3-1. Kelsey Burke scored the lone Cougar goal on a feed from McCall Moore. Morgan Maltby stopped eight for Chatham. West Morris scored two first half goals to take a 2-0 lead. Cougars are now 2-3 on the season.
• The JV volleyball team fell to Morris Hills 2-0.
• The JV girls soccer team fell 4-1 to West Morris Central. WMC scored twice in the first five minutes and never looked back. Chatham's defense had all they could handle with a well-organized team. In the midfield, Lindsey Carson, Bridget Ballard, and Alex Routh did well creating a number of opportunities for Chatham, but could not take advantage. In the second half, already behind 3-0, Chatham finally capitalized on a WMC mistake in the box. Lindsey Carson spotted a penalty kick just out of reach of the keeper to put CHS on the board. Unfortunately, that was all the scoring Chatham could muster despite several really good opportunities by Becky Fabian and Kelsey Terry. Caroline Viscovich made seven saves during the contest.
