Car Rolled Over Owner Before Crashing, Cops Say

Car crashed into large rock after owner reached in to take keys out of ignition.

A car owner was transported to Morristown Medical Center with injuries Sunday after police said she was rolled over by her own car on River Road.

Sgt. Robert Scheetz, Ptl. Scott Herchick and Ptl. Anthony LoPorto responded to the Chatham Township road around 6:30 p.m. where the car crashed into a large rock, according to Chatham Township Police Lt. Maureen Kazaba.

The owner of the car, who Kazaba did not name, had reached into the car to take out the keys that were in the ignition as the car was parked on a steep driveway. The car was still running at the time and began to roll down the driveway.

Kazaba said the owner had held on to the car as it struck the rock, but it then overturned, rolling over her.

Eventually, Kazaba said, the car came to rest on River Road. The extent of the owner's injuries was not provided.
