Father, Son Accused of Drug Operation to Appear in Court
The men were arrested on drug and weapons charges in August.

Two Chatham men, a father and son, will appear in Morris County Superior Court on Sept. 18 on drug and weapons charges.

Each man was charged with third-degree manufacturing, distributing or dispensing a CDS; third-degree distribution on or within 1,000 feet of school property; fourth-degree possession of a CDS; fourth-degree possession of a prohibited weapon; possession or distribution of a hypodermic syringe and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Zachary Smith was also charged with fourth-degree possession of paraphernalia with intent to distribute.

Police seized a military grenade, a stun gun and about 1 pound of marijuana from their bust of the Lum Avenue home where Smith and Smith were found. The bust caused an evacuation of the neighborhood.
The Morris County Bomb Squad seized the device without incident and testing revealed the device was an M30 military training grenade that did not "contain material capable of causing an explosion," police said.

An investigation led by detectives Joseph Crecca and Daniel Walsh resulted in a search warrant being obtained for the Lum Avenue residence Saturday night at about 8:15 p.m., Chatham Borough Police said.
Walter Smith was released on his own recognizance and Zachary Smith was release after posting $5,000 bond.
The two men will appear before the Hon. Stuart A. Minkowitz.
