Chatham Girls Fall Short of Group 2 LAX Title

Summit edges Chatham 9-8 for group championship; Cougars coach 'so, so proud' of team.

Chatham High School girls made a late run Wednesday in the North Jersey Group 2 lacrosse finals but came up just short in a 9-8 loss to Summit.

Goalies Hannah Reader of Chatham and Kady Glynn of Summit played major roles in what was a battle on the field. Reader had 12 saves to Glynn’s 11 but the difference was a pair of momentum-crushing saves by Glynn late in the second half.

After leading 7-5 at the half, Summit came out and quickly scored a pair of goals early in the second half.

“Once you get behind against a team like Summit, it is definitely going to be an uphill battle for the rest of the game,” said Chatham coach Hillary Renna. “These girls were able to come together throughout the season and they just never ever gave up. I am so, so proud of them.”

Lauren Maiorano led the way for Chatham with three goals, and Meaghan Celmer of Summit matched her with three of her own. Summit’s Sara Szynal also pitched in three points with a pair of goals and an assist.
