Chatham Offers Private Bus Service If N.J. Transit Workers Strike

Three buses will be available in Chatham's train station parking lot each weekday morning.

CHATHAM, N.J. – Chatham is home to one of the region’s most used and popular train stations. Come Monday, March 14, it may be empty.

If New Jersey Transit can’t settle a contract with its more than 4,000 union employees, a work stoppage will ensue and the rail lines will be shut down.

What does that mean for commuters heading into New York City? The need to find a different mode of transportation.

Chatham, like a handful of other Morris County towns, will offer private bus service starting Monday in the event a strike does occur.

Three buses will be available each weekday at the Chatham Borough Train Station parking lot. Buses will begin loading at 5:30 a.m. and leave when they’re full, and drop-off will be on 8th Avenue between 31st and 33rd Streets in Manhattan. Pick-up will likely be at the same location beginning at 4:30 p.m.
