Academic performance, community service, extracurricular activities and financial need are among the award criteria. The scholarship committee reviews and approves applications in an unbiased manner, with no knowledge of a student's identity.
Within the community, Carey serves on the Chatham Emergency Squad and has been an official member since 2021. The Chatham Emergency Squad responds to all 911 calls in both Chathams for medical emergencies, caring for the sick and injured and transporting them to area hospitals.
The Chatham Emergency Squad never charges for its services; the majority of its annual expenses are covered by community donations. The squad also provides on-call assistance for community events such as the Chatham Turkey Trot, the Fishawack Festival and additional school sporting events.
All 16 selected students will be honored at an official ceremony planned for May 15 at the Morris County Public Safety Training Academy, which is located at 500 W. Hanover Avenue in Morristown.
The event will run from 7 to 9 p.m., and advanced registration is required. To register for the ceremony, click here.
Refreshments will be served following the ceremony, officials said.
The 200 Club of Morris County was founded in 1971 by a group of concerned business and political leaders. Its formation arose directly from involvement with the Essex County Club, which was founded in 1967 as New Jersey's first 200 Club.
