Over half a mile of cars backed up on Lafayette Avenue Tuesday morning was a sign of the inevitable: School is back in session.
The School District of the Chathams welcomed students back into the classrooms this morning. Emotions ranged from nervousness to excitement to nonchalance, among students and their parents, especially at the elementary schools. Hardly a parent was seen without a camera in-hand outside of Milton Avenue Elementary School, while at Chatham High School hardly a parent was seen outside of a car at all.
Students, parents, teachers and administrators will get another taste of summer vacation on Thursday, when schools will be closed for Rosh Hashana. But having a three-day week doesn't make it a light one. There is a Fall Sports Parents/Coaches meeting at Chatham High tonight at 7 p.m. and a Board of Education meeting at the Township Municipal Building at 7:30 p.m.
