Chatham Twp Committee Moves Meetings To Tuesdays Starting In 2022
Most Chatham Township Committee meetings are going to be held the second and fourth Tuesday of every month.
CHATHAM, NJ — As Chatham Township gears up for the coming year, the Township Committee decided at its most recent meeting, to move its upcoming meetings from Thursdays to Tuesdays.
Chatham Township’s Clerk Greg LaConte engaged in a discussion with the Township Committee near the conclusion of the nearly three-hour Dec. 16 meeting about the new schedule, saying it had been previously proposed to change the days that the Township Committee meets.
LaConte and Administrator Robert Hoffmann told the Committee the full change would go into effect in February, with the Township Committee needing to meet on Jan. 18, the third Tuesday of the month, to go over the bill list, for items that need to be paid for January.

Hoffman said his only concern with the schedule was that the bill list the Township Committee needed to authorize, was done on time.
The Committee is planning to hold its reorganization meeting on Thursday, Jan. 6, which is the day when the 2022 calendar would be approved.

LaConte said the township typically holds one meeting each in July and August, but if meetings needed to be added, they could do so later.
He also said that the election in 2022 is planned for Tuesday, Nov. 8, the second Tuesday in November, which would present a conflict to the new meeting calendar. He proposed a meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2022. A second meeting in November, likely on Nov. 29, could be added as needed, with the holidays presenting another wrinkle in the schedule. LaConte said holding a meeting on Nov. 1, would only be a week after the committee’s last October meeting.
Mayor Stacey Ewald participated in the discussion, stating she would be fine with just the Nov. 15 so far, as the only meeting for November 2022.
LaConte said Dec. 13, 2022 would be the sole meeting calendared for December 2022, then Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2023, would be set as Chatham Township’s reorganization meeting for the following year.
He added that at this point, there’s “no way of knowing what kind of business will come up” that the Township Committee will need to address at the end of 2022.
“Hopefully, we won’t need extra meetings,” he said.
He said in 2020, the Township Committee had met seven times by the end of February.
LaConte said he wanted to hold a public discussion so people in the community were aware the meetings are moving to Tuesday nights.
