COVID Pivots Chatham Reorg Meeting To All Virtual Format
The borough reorganization meeting, originally scheduled in person, is going to be held virtually on Jan. 3.
CHATHAM, NJ — Climbing COVID case counts are the reason behind Chatham Borough’s switch from an in-person to full virtual reorganization meeting.
The announcement was made late Wednesday night by Borough Administrator Steven Williams, who in an email wrote, “In light of the recent up-tick of positive Delta and Omicron Covid-19 cases in the Borough, 168 last week and 108 this week, we have decided that it would be in the best interest of all to switch the Borough’s 2022 Reorganization Meeting to a virtual meeting.”
As of Thursday morning, Chatham Township Administrator Robert Hoffman said that Chatham Township's reorganization meeting, planned for Thursday, Jan. 6 at 7:30 p.m, is going to remain a hybrid meeting. In an email to Patch, Hoffmann said that the reorganization will be in-person, with an online component. Stay tuned for updates here.

Chatham Borough’s 168 positive cases accrued during the week of Dec. 15 through 22, as compared to 60 cases between Dec. 1 and 14.

In July, the Borough Council meetings returned to an in-person format with a virtual component, following a hiatus since the start of the pandemic from in-person meetings. For the Township, the meetings transitioned back to an in-person format in June.

Williams said that the Borough has “every confidence that the January 24th meeting will be in person, but that decision will be made closer to that date.”

Beginning in February, Chatham Township meetings are planned to move from Thursdays to the second and fourth Tuesday of each month.
