Crime Up In Chatham Twp., Down In Borough In Early 2016
Year-over-year stats show minor changes in newly released report.

CHATHAM, N.J. – Crime, while still minimal, saw a slight uptick in Chatham Township but a decrease in the borough from the first two months in 2015 compared to the first two months in 2016.
According to the Uniform Crime Report, compiled by the New Jersey State Police, Chatham Borough saw a major decrease in larceny, or theft, year over year.
In 2015 there were six charges of larceny in the first two months, but none during the same time frame this year.

The borough also saw a decrease in the total number of simple assault crimes, recording three last year versus two this year.
Where the borough has seen an increase is in burglaries, both unlawful entry and attempted forcible entry. Each of those categories had one in 2016 but none in 2015.

Chatham Township’s figures went up mainly in the larceny category, from three to seven year-over-year, but saw decreases in simple assaults (two in 2015; 0 in 2016).
The township did see an assault with a dangerous weapon earlier this year but did not in 2015, and one forcible entry in 2015 with none in 2016.
