Drunk Driver Ran Stop Sign, Caused 4-Car Crash In Chatham Twp.: Cops

No injuries reporter after daytime crash.

Chatham Twp., N.J. – A Fanwood man driving through Chatham Township last week blew a stop sign and caused a four-car crash, Police Chief Steven Hennelly said.

On June 15 at 4:13 p.m. police responded to the intersection of River Road and Central/Fairmount Avenue for a report of a crash. When they arrived, officers found Alexander Bernhard, 24, and an investigation revealed his vehicle failed to stop on Central at River Road, Hennelly said.

As a result, Bernhard caused a four-car crash.

Bernhard took a field sobriety test and was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated and charged, along with having an open alcohol container, reckless driving, and disregard of a stop sign.

No injuries were reported as a result of the crash.
