Eighth Grade Cougars Steal Victory from Springfield
In the last two minutes of the game, Cougars scored a safety to end 8-7 against Springfield.
The Grade 8 A football team scored a safety to inch ahead of Springfield for a final score of 8-7 in a dramatic fourth quarter Sunday.
After three quarters of slipping on the field and the ball sliding from their grips, both teams rallied to score a touchdown each.
Springfield scored first, earning an extra point only seconds into the fourth quarter. Chatham turned around and scored a touchdown and, with 7:50 left on the clock, missed the extra point.

The Cougars defensive line took some hits but kept Springfield from racking up any more points on the scoreboard. When the offensive team took over they were yards from Springfield's goalposts, thanks to a long run by Evan Bernard.
Springfield held the line, but seconds before the clock ran out the Cougars managed a safety and walked away victorious.

Murdoch Harris and Conor Murray's tackling played no small role in Springfield's final score.
Zachary St. Romain sustained the only injury of the game. Coaches helped him off the field and he spent the rest of the game with an ice pack taped to his elevated right ankle. He walked with the rest of his team to shake hands with the opponent when the game ended.
