Former Chatham Mayor Takes Oath As County Commissioner Director

Tayfun Selen, who served as Chatham Township Mayor and is a congressional candidate for NJ-11, is the county's new Commissioner Director.

CHATHAM, NJ — When Tayfun Selen came to the United States 25 years ago from Turkey, he didn’t speak English and his first job was pumping fuel at a station in Madison.

Selen, who became an American citizen in 2008, recently took his oath virtually - the reorganization meeting in that format because of the COVID spike - to serve as Morris County’s Commissioner Director.

Before he became a County Commissioner in 2021, Selen served as Chatham Township's Mayor and is Senior Vice President of Administration for Lincoln Educational Services, a Chatham Township resident for 19 years and Morris County resident for 23.
