Bill Heap of the Chatham Jaycees appeared before the Chatham Borough Council on May 28 to show them the design for the 2013 Fishawack Run.
Brian Hart of the Jaycees said about 400 people are already preregistered for the 36th Fishawack race, and he expects to surpass 500 preregistrations before Saturday.
"If weather holds we expect about 800 runners total for both one-mile and 4-mile runs," Hart said.

Heap asked the council to approve the routes for this year's race, which they did. The routes for both races will follow the same streets as the 2012 race.

The one-mile route will loop from the train station down Walnut Street to Lincoln Avenue and Chatham Street and back down Washington Avenue.
The four-mile race will go up Washington Avenue to Inwood Road, up Lafayette Avenue, left at Longwood Avenue, down Washington and back up Dellwood once more before returning to the southern parking lot at the Chatham New Jersey Transit station, which is also the starting point for both races.
Both races will be held rain or shine Saturday. The one-mile race begins at 9 a.m. and the four-mile race begins at 9:30 a.m.
Registration fees for all race registration fees are $25. All children 12 and under are delegated to the one-mile race.
If you forget to register in advance of the race, registration begins at 8 a.m. in the southern parking lot of the Chatham NJ Transit train station.
There will be prizes for the first place in different age groups in the four-mile race, and for the men and women who come in first, second and third place in both races.
There is one more new twist in this year's Fishawack Race, Hart said. "This year instead of [giving a prize for the] oldest T-shirt, we will be randomly giving out hats to runners wearing race shirts from years past," according to Hart.
There will be limited day-of registration on June 8 at the booth near ECLC School. Custom T-shirts are only guaranteed to the first 600 registered runners, with no guarantees for sizes
Proceeds from the race benefit the ECLC School, the Boy and Girl Scouts, the Chatham Emergency Squad and various PTOs and scholarship funds.
Following the race will be the Fishawack awards ceremony, which includes the Mayor's Award for outstanding volunteerism.
Sponsors and supporters of the race include Dunkin' Donuts, J. Weber Design, Coldwell Banker, Guardian Life and Intermedium Financial.
